How to Remove SBMM in Call of Duty Black Ops 6

What is SBMM (Skill Based Matchmaking)

Skill-Based Matchmaking (SBMM) is a system used in multiplayer video games that pairs players together based on their skill level, aiming to create balanced and competitive matches. Instead of randomly matching players, SBMM analyzes various performance metrics such as kill/death ratio, win rate, accuracy, and game experience to place players against opponents of similar ability. While this system helps protect newer players from being dominated by veterans and ensures more evenly matched games, it has become a controversial topic in gaming communities. Some players argue it makes games too competitive and removes the casual experience, while others praise it for providing consistently challenging matches and preventing skill gaps that could discourage less experienced players.

Pros and Cons of SBMM

Pros

  • Protects new players from getting crushed by veterans, helping with player retention
  • Creates more competitive and evenly matched games
  • Reduces frustration from massive skill gaps
  • Helps players gradually improve by facing appropriate challenges
  • Prevents high-skill players from "pubstomping" (dominating inexperienced players)
  • More engaging experience for average-skill players
  • Reduces match abandonment since games feel more winnable

Cons

  • Makes games consistently sweaty/competitive with few casual matches
  • Higher-skill players can't relax and have to "try hard" every game
  • Longer queue times, especially for very high or low skill players
  • Can make playing with friends difficult if they have different skill levels
  • May encourage "smurfing" (skilled players creating new accounts to face easier opponents)
  • Connection quality might suffer as the system prioritizes skill over ping
  • Progress feels less rewarding since you constantly face tougher opponents as you improve
  • Makes social/community aspects harder since you rarely play with the same people
